Copy Parameter

Overview

Copy Parameter is a powerful tool for managing and synchronizing parameters across multiple components in an Inventor assembly. Parameters are essential for controlling component behavior, geometry, and custom properties, and keeping them consistent is critical for large assemblies and automated workflows. This command allows you to select a source component and copy one or more parameters to other components, ensuring that values, keys, or both are transferred accurately. You can also create missing parameters in target components, making it easy to standardize parameter sets across your project. The dialog provides flexible selection and filtering options, so you can target only the components and parameters you need. Copy Parameter supports batch operations, advanced selection via Filtered Select, and handles type mismatches gracefully by skipping incompatible parameters. This command is ideal for updating design standards, propagating key values, or automating repetitive parameter management tasks in complex assemblies.

How It Works

1. Choose the source component file by picking a component in the assembly or using the file dialog box.
2. Select parameters to copy from the available list.
3. Choose the copy command: Copy Value, Copy Key, or Copy Both.
4. Optionally, check Create to create parameters that do not exist in the target component.
5. Parameters are copied to selected components, unless the parameter types differ.

Usage Instructions

1. Open the assembly and select the source component.
2. Click the Copy Parameter button in the Configure panel.
3. Select parameters to copy and choose the copy command.
4. Optionally, check Create to add missing parameters.
5. Click OK to copy parameters to selected components.

Troubleshooting

1. If parameters are not copied, check that the parameter types match in both files.
2. Ensure the correct source and target components are selected.
3. Use Filtered Select for advanced component selection.

Examples

1. Copy a numeric parameter to all components: Select the parameter and use Copy Value.
2. Copy a key parameter only: Select the parameter and use Copy Key.
3. Create missing parameters: Check Create to add parameters that do not exist in the target component.

Parameter Selection

Select parameters to copy from the available list. Use Shift or Ctrl to select multiple items.

Copy Command

Copy Value: Copy the parameter value.

Copy Key: Copy the parameter key only.

Copy Both: Copy both the value and the key.

Create Option

Check Create to add the parameter to the target component if it does not exist.
